Connor Sandrock and Benjamin Sandrock, Obituary- Death, Savanna, IL, Train Accident: Community Mourns Tragic Death

The communities of Carroll and Whiteside counties are grieving a heartbreaking loss following a tragic train collision near Savanna, Illinois, that claimed the lives of a father and son.

Authorities have confirmed that 21-year-old Connor L. Sandrock and his father, 50-year-old Benjamin G. Sandrock, both of rural Lyndon, lost their lives in the devastating incident on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. at a private railroad crossing off Illinois Route 84, near the Savanna Tri-Township Airport.

Investigators report that the two were traveling in a pickup truck towing a boat and trailer when their vehicle was struck by a southbound train. Emergency responders from multiple agencies—including fire departments from Savanna, Thomson, and Clinton, Iowa, along with local law enforcement and state officials—arrived quickly at the scene. Despite their efforts, both men were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.

At this time, authorities have not released additional details regarding what may have led to the crash. The incident remains under active investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
